Bleebop Records #2017

Ted Brown - tenor saxophone
Brad Linde - tenor saxophone
Gary Versace - Hammond B3 organ
Aaron Quinn - guitar
Deric Dickens - drums

This is the 4th album Brad and I have done together. It is the first time we have recorded with an audience and the first time we have worked with a Hammond B-3 organ.
Brad arranged for us to do it at the Jazz Gallery on Broadway in New York on February 2nd. We did two sets with Gary Versace on organ, Aaron Quinn on guitar, Deric Dickens on drums and Brad and I on tenor saxophones. I am now 92 years old and was not really expecting this.
It really felt great and we all had a good time. Also, at Brad’s urging I managed to write a new line titled “Watch Out” based on an old standard called “Sunday”.

I hope you enjoy it as much as we did.

Ted February 18, 2020 New York City

When thinking about doing another album with Ted, I noticed that he had not recorded with Hammond B3. I suggested we do something new and Ted agreed. Gary Versace is my favorite player on the instrument and Deric and Aaron completed the iconic trio. I made some song suggestions that were associated with Charlie Parker (in celebration of his centennial in 2020) and the standard “Sunday” (which Ted named as a favorite). Jimmy Katz and Rio provided the live recording opportunity at The Jazz Gallery, also a new experience. The night before the session, Gary asked if I knew the line on " I Can't Believe You're In Love With Me" and I happened to have a folded copy of it in my coat pocket...and quickly learned it.

I already have an idea for the next one, so watch out!
